Chazzan Jacky Chernett
Jaclyn received Semicha as Chazan and Teacher in Israel from
Rabbi Dr Martin Cooper, Chazan Sol Zim and Chazan Ken Cohen, at
the
Academy for Jewish Religion,
a pluralist Rabbinical and Cantorial seminary in New York. A
Jewish musicologist, she has an MPhil from City University under
the tutelage of Dr Alexander Knapp.
She
is a founding member and a Vice-President of the Assembly of
Masorti Synagogues, a Life President of
Edgware Masorti Synagogue
and a founder of
Kol Nefesh Masorti Synagogue,
the first fully egalitarian congregation in Masorti UK.
The
first woman in the UK to be ordained as Chazan, Jaclyn’s passion
for Jewish studies and Jewish liturgical music has driven her
vision to create a comprehensive teaching facility for those who
wish to lead services, and of their development in spiritual
leadership through prayer.
Chazan Chernett is a Jewish musicologist and educator. Her MPhil
thesis was devoted to Ashkenazi biblical chant and she teaches,
writes and lectures on Jewish religious issues and in particular
liturgical studies. She received cantorial ordination in 2006
from Rabbi Dr Martin Cooper, Chazan Sol Zim and Chazan Ken Cohen
at the Academy for Jewish Religion, a pluralist Rabbinical and
Cantorial School in New York. Her current work includes the
foundation of the
European Academy for Jewish Liturgy –
EAJL - a multi-level, multi-national and
multi-media teaching facility for inspired leaders of Synagogue
prayer.
Jaclyn is an experienced teacher and lecturer, and has published
papers on various Jewish subjects. Married to Brian Chernett,
they are blessed with three daughters and sons-in-law and nine
grandchildren.
