WHAT IS NOAM?
Noam is the Zionist youth movement of the
Assembly of Masorti Synagogues. We run exciting programmes that
foster Jewish identity, a love of Judaism and Israel, and a
commitment to activism and social justice.
Our activities range from weekly clubs, summer
camps in Britain, Europe and Israel, and weekends away, through
to intensive leadership training, social action projects and a
year programme in Israel.
Noam is the best place for all Jewish young
people to make friends, take part in new and challenging
activities, and have an amazing time.
WHAT DO WE STAND FOR?
Judaism In Noam, young people are given the
opportunity to come together regardless of personal levels of
observance to explore their Jewish identity as part of a
community which is tolerant, open and traditional. Our emphasis
is always on experiencing, learning and understanding.
ZIONISM
Noam is a Zionist youth movement. We
believe every Jew should have a relationship with Israel, and
that this relationship should be a central part of their Jewish
life. Noam believes every Jew should seriously consider the
option of aliyah, and supports any of its members who choose to
make their life in Israel.
DEMOCRACY
Noam is a youth movement run for its members
by its members and we defend our right to make autonomous
decisions and act on them. We believe our vibrancy and dynamism
are a direct result of this, and are proud of the fact that most
of our leaders are movement graduates.
TIKKUN OLAM
Noam believes that every
individual has the obligation of tikkun olam (repairing the
world), advancing equality, peace and justice with whatever
means are at their disposal. Noam actively challenges all forms
of discrimination.
HADRACHA (LEADERSHIP)
In Noam we provide a
safe, nurturing and supportive environment in which young people
can learn and grow, both as individuals and as a group, under
the influence of positive role models.
MACHANOT (CAMPS)
At Noam Machanot you'll experience
a huge range of amazing activities, including: Rock-climbing,
video-making, storytelling, hiking, swimming, arts and crafts,
drama, sport, abseling, music and singing, beach trips, talent
shows, oritenteering, quizzes, caving, parties, circus skills,
discos, canoeing, wide games, cooking, and more ....
GROUP LIFE AT MACHANOT
Offers a unique opportunity
to meet other young Jews and make new friends with people from
all over the world. The friendships formed at camp are deep and
long lasting. Perhaps most importantly, young people in Noam
learn to live as part of a group with teamwork and cooperation
as the highest values.
RELIGIOUS LIFE AT MACHANOT
We observe
Shabbat in public places, and Kashrut. All activities feature
daily prayer (shacharit) and grace after meals (birkat ha-mazon).
Our approach is positive, fun, educational and non-coercive. The
personal space and differing opinions of each participant are
always respected.
MADRICHIM (LEADERS)
Participants at Noam activities are
looked after by a large experienced team of trained madrichim, aged 16 plus. Most of our madrichim have themselves
grown up in Noam and are highly motivated to work with young
people in the movement.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Noam madrichim are
graduates of Meltam, our unique two year leadership training
course. Meltam offers our trainee madrichim a qualification in
Jewish youth leadership. No other youth movement has formalised
its leadership training in such an innovative and prestigious
way, and we continue to reap the benefits with a capable,
creative and committed team of leaders.
